Mark Hoppus has performed live for the first time since announcing he is now cancer-free back in September. Hoppus played three Blink-182 songs as part of bandmate Travis Barker‘s House of Horrors livestream, which also featured performances by Avril Lavigne and Machine Gun Kelly.
Hoppus, joined by Barker and Escape the Fate‘s Kevin “Thrasher” Gruft, played a trio of Blink classics during the performance – ‘What’s My Age Again?’, ‘The Rock Show’ and ‘Family Reunion’. Prior to the set, Barker was asked during an interview about what it was like reuniting with Hoppus after the bassist announced his chemotherapy treatment had been successful. “Oh, that’s the biggest, the best news all year. Yeah, that’s my brother,” Barker responded.
“Mark doing this and us playing a few songs is just incredible. I’ve been with him through this whole process and he’s just been so strong and resilient and tough, and I just told him, ‘Elbows up and fight’, you know? It’s time to fight. And he did. It’s awesome.”
Hoppus revealed earlier this year that he had begun chemotherapy following a cancer diagnosis, later revealed to be stage 4 lymphoma. After several months of treatment, he announced he was cancer-free on September 29.
