Watch Strand Of Oaks Perform Live At The Sheen Center

121

Strand of Oaks (Timothy Showalter) played a private show at New York City’s The Sheen Center on September 20 for NYC public radio station WFUV. Tim went solo for a six-song set with audio available via WFUV.org and video of three tunes shared on the station’s YouTube channel.

Showalter’s WFUV performance came after Strand Of Oaks festival appearances at XPoNential Music Festival on September 18 and Sea.Hear.Now on September 19. Those two sets were Tim’s first and only full-band concerts held since the pandemic began. Showalter wound up canceling the group’s Fall 2021 headlining dates on September 24 due to “the current state of affairs.”

Tim opened the WFUV set with “Galacticana” and “Horses At Night” from In Heaven, a new Strand Of Oaks album that arrived on October 1. Showalter warned the crowd of FUV Marquee Members, attending the station’s first in-person show since the pandemic began, that his voice “had been used a little bit” over the previous two days and he was “a raw livewire” and “a little prone to tears” after being overwhelmed by “the beauty of people being together in a room.”

Showalter went on to discuss his appreciation for New York City, how he wanted to write songs that made his wife smile for In Heaven and the power of radio. A performance of “Shut In” was followed by the live debut of In Heaven’s “Sunbathers.” Tim then played his ode to John Prine, “Somewhere In Chicago,” before ending the set with “Goshen ’97” from the 2014 Strand Of Oaks album, Heal.
