Cat Power (Chan Marshall) announced 2022 North American tour dates. The singer-songwriter also shared a single from her upcoming Covers album, Dead Man’s Bones’ “Pa Pa Power.”
Cat Power kicks off her 2022 tour in Albany, New York on January 16. The tour continues through the Northeast with stops in Boston, Brooklyn and Philadelphia before heading through the South via Washington D.C. with engagements in Atlanta, Nashville, Texas and Tulsa. A concert in Denver will kick off February on the 2 followed by a run through the West including Bosie, Portland, Seattle and San Francisco among others. The winter leg of the tour concludes on February 11 in Los Angeles.
The spring leg of the tour gets underway in Toronto on April 19 before a jaunt through the Midwest with stops in Detroit, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Cat Power returns to the Northeast with stops in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut ahead of a two-night stand in Charlotteville, Virginia. The tour wraps up with another two-night run in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 5 and 6.
Cat Power will be touring around her Covers album. Along with the tour dates, Marshall shared the single “Pa Pa Power” by Dead Man’s Bones as well as her experience with the song:
I started playing this solo in 2012 (originally more dissonant and trance-y), when the Occupy Wall street protests were going on. Occupy was bunkering down and saying, “This shit’s fucking fucked up.” And helping citizens be a voice in their local government. They got a lot of good things done, but the American media killed the movement. I felt like this song was relative to that. The American media has always penalized any sort of social progressiveness and is always the first to express conservative rhetoric against something that is beneficial to the nation. I’d open with this song on the 2013 China tour. “Burn the streets, burn the cars.”
