Eggy has premiered a full-show video of the band’s October 26th performance at Charlottesville, VA’s Jefferson Theater. The 45-minute set came during the quartet’s recent fall tour opening for Spafford.
Tasked with readying the Charlottesville crowd for the headliners, Eggy kept its streak of no repeats on the tour and opened with “Solid Ground”. Carried by a bouncy rhythm from bassist Michael Goodman and drummer Alex Bailey, “Solid Ground” served as an upbeat primer for the Connecticut-based outfit. Throughout the track, keyboardist Dani Battat switched often between synth and organ sounds, eventually bringing the group to a breakbeat dance groove.
After some quick welcoming words, guitarist Jake Brownstein guided the group into “Lost and Found” from Eggy’s 2019 album, Watercolor Days. Replete with effervescent instrumentation and uplifting vocal harmonies, the track eventually found its way to the debut of new song “I Was Born (No I Wasn’t)”. Here, Brownstein and Battat added some humorous banter setting up the song’s localized, titular refrain, “I was born in Charlottesville / No I wasn’t.” Bright and buoyant organ work from Battat juiced this debut and launched the set to new heights before finding its way back to “Lost and Found”.
Following this lengthy, jam-packed “Lost and Found” sandwich, Brownstein, Battat, Bailey, and Goodman flexed their segue muscles once more and arrived at the set-ending cover, “Time Loves A Hero”, the title track to Little Feat‘s 1977 record. This stretched-out, 15-plus minute telling saw Eggy explore new territory, complete with teases of “Casa De Mel” (Brad Goodall) and “Black Market” (Weather Report). Scroll down to watch a full-set video of Eggy open for Spafford at Charlottesville’s Jefferson Theater.
Eggy has several shows left on the 2021 calendar, including stops at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY opening for Twiddle, an NYC late-night appearance during Phish‘s New Year’s Run, and a supporting slot at Aqueous‘ NYE Buffalo.
