Goose celebrated Halloween with concerts at Worcester’s The Palladium on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s show featured a brief jam on the Phish classic “David Bowie” among its highlights, while Goose devoted this year’s Halloween “Netflox & Chill” performance to the movie theme Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.
The quintet began the run on Saturday with a 30-minute “Wysteria Lane”/”Time To Flee” pairing. Goose then took on “Jive II” and “The Whales” before debuting “Rockdale,” a song from proto-Goose band Vasudo. “Seekers On The Ridge Part 1” followed and for the first time didn’t lead into the second part of the song. Instead, the five-piece took the beloved “Tumble” deep to end the set.
“Arrow” led into “Bob Don” to get Saturday’s second set underway. Next came a “Ghostbusters Rap” based on Run D.M.C.’s contribution to Ghostbusters II. Goose slickly segued into “David Bowie” and took aim at Worcester native Tony Scavone by singing “Fuck You Tony Scavone” instead of “David Bowie” as pointed out in crew member Jon “Coach” Lombardi’s setlist notes. Scavone, a concert promoter and Disc Jam founder, faces multiple allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault. A cover of Fat Freddy’s Drop’s “Fish In The Sea” came next before Goose worked “White Lights” into the end of “Arrow” to conclude the set. Saturday’s two-song encore consisted of “Moby” and a take on Sergio Mendes’ “Mas Que Nada.”
The members of Goose dressed as characters from the Austin Powers franchise on Halloween. Multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach was Austin Powers, guitarist Rick Mitarotonda was Dr. Evil, drummer Ben Atkind was Mini-Me, bassist Trevor Weekz was Mustafa and percussionist Jeff Arevalo was Scott Evil. Quincy Jones’ “Soul Bossa Nova,” which as JiveGoose noted (multiple stats and facts in this article also come from JiveGoose) is featured on both the Spy Who Shagged Me and International Man Of Mystery soundtracks, opened with its first appearance since July 2, 2018.

Last night’s first cover debut was “Draggin’ The Line” by Tommy James. From there, Goose played “Earthling Or Alien?,” dusted off their take on The Who’s “My Generation” for the first time since August 2, 2018 and performed “A Western Sun.” Another new cover came next with Neil Diamond’s “I’m A Believer” which was connected to the set-closing “So Ready” by an “Earthling Or Alien?” reprise.
The final set of the weekend saw debuts of covers featuring songs on Austin Powers soundtracks including The Guess Who’s “American Woman,” “Magic Carpet Ride” by Steppenwolf and Devo’s “Whip It.” Goose also worked in the “Seekers On The Ridge Part 2” that went missing a night earlier and had Mitarotonda rap as Dr. Evil in a debut cover of Grover Washington, Jr.’s “Just The Two Of Us.” Beloved fan-favorite “Hot Tea” ended the frame before Goose said farewell with their first fast “All I Need” since December 7, 2019 as last night’s encore.
