Pigeons Playing Ping Pong shared three new videos on Wednesday night, each coming from a different portion of the band’s recent Daft Side of the Moon Halloween run on October 29th–31st. The three shows saw PPPP covering Pink Floyd and Daft Punk songs during stops in Washington, D.C. (10/29); Pittsburgh, PA (10/30); and Columbus, OH (10/31).
Going in chronological order, the first video came from night one, set one at The Anthem in D.C., and documents an expansive, 21-plus minute segment of “Poseidon” > “One More Time” (Daft Punk) > “Poseidon”. Guitarist and lead vocalist, Greg Ormont, let the opening E Major chord of “Poseidon” ring out following the end of “Three Pigs Have A Cigar”—a Pink Floyd mashup of “Pigs (Three Different Ones) and “Have A Cigar”. Poseidon, a true fan-favorite, contained its usual lengthy buildup before dropping into its oceanic verse.
As the jam section dropped into the depths of the calm sea, Jeremy Schon (guitar) spent some energy on serene improv before some delay-infused 16th note repeaters and washed out rhythm guitar from Ormont navigated its way to the Daft Punk hit, “One More Time”. Channeling the true Daft Punk vibes, Ormont added an auto-tune effect to his microphone, truly capturing the feel of the dance track before slipping back into the familiarity of the “Poseidon” jam.

The next cut from Pigeons’ Daft Side of the Moon run came from the first set of Halloween night at Express LIVE in Columbus. This section began with “On the Run”, from Floyd’s hit 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon. PPPP stayed true to the spacey psychedelia of the original, with Alex Petropulos (drums) keeping the tempo up as Schon produced some trippy lines from his PRS Hollowbody II. A few minutes of this otherworldly madness dropped into one of the quartet’s earliest tunes, “Funk E. Zekiel”, courtesy of some ominous laughs over the microphone from Ormont.

The bright and funky instrumental eventually made its way to two tracks from Pink Floyd’s Another Brick In The Wall album, “Run Like Hell” and part one of the title track. “Run Like Hell” came first, before a segue led to “Another Brick In The Wall, Pt. 1” and then back to “Run Like Hell”. Around the 21-minute mark, PPPP returned to the confines of “Funk E. Zekiel” and the always-raucous drum, bass, and guitar solo measures from Petropulos, Ben Carrey, and Ormont, respectively. After the usual pause and ensuing applause, “Funk E. Zekiel” ended and sent the Express LIVE crowd into set break.

The final video shared by Pigeons on Wednesday night captured the 30-minute class of set two, starting with “Julia”. The Psychology track eventually made its way to another auto-tune-laden Daft Punk mashup of “Get Lucky” and “Around The World”, which triggered thunderous applause and provided the room with all the dance music vibes the night’s theme promised. An extensive Pink Floyd segment followed with “The Happiest Days Of Our Lives”—which PPPP hadn’t played since 10/14/11—then the final two parts of “Another Brick In The Wall”. The hard-rockin’ “Another Brick In The Wall” finally arrived back to “Julia” and teed up a set-ending “Water”, which saw Pigeons squeeze in “One More Time” one more time, before closing the “Water” sandwich.
