Pigeons Playing Ping Pong brought its fall tour to Denver, CO’s Mission Ballroom on Saturday night where the band debuted a new original song, “Let The Boogie Out”. The Mission Ballroom performance also featured support from Colorado’s own Magic Beans.

Pigeons opened the show with “Mission KillPossiBill”, a mashup of the Mission Impossible and Kill Bill theme songs, tipping a cap to the large capacity Denver venue. From there, Greg Ormont (vocals/guitar), Jeremy Schon (guitar), Ben Carrey (bass), and Alex Petropulos (drums) launched into “Henrietta”, the upbeat Pizazz track (loosely) based on the porcupine featured in The Office‘s “Christmas Wishes” episode.

It didn’t take long for the heavy hitters to come out, as “Henrietta” segued to the Presto single, “King Kong”. This particular rendition of “King Kong” came alongside a cover of Black Sabbath‘s “War Pigs”, a frequent pairing dating back to 2017. A regular Pigeons collaborator, Magic Beans’ Casey Russell, joined PPPP for a take on the Psychology fan-favorite “F.U.” ahead of the sensual “Move Like That”, which Pigeons debuted back in 2020 at Seattle, WA’s Neptune Theatre. “Move Like That” linked up with the dark, thumping “Avalanche” instrumental, before the uplifting, oceanic “Poseidon”. Squeezing between two ends of the set-ending “Poseidon” sandwich was a cover of Daft Punk‘s “One More Time”. Ormont and company recently debuted the cover during the band’s Daft Side of the Moon Halloween run.

“Day In Time” found itself in the set-opening position for the first time ever and sat before “Time To Ride”, a song that often finds itself in the one-hole. Another Daft Side of the Moon debut, Pink Floyd‘s “Run Like Hell”, served as the filling for a “Time To Ride” sandwich, having been matched with “Funk E Zekiel” and “Porcupine” in previous iterations.

At the midpoint of set two, Pigeons unleashed a very special surprise for the Mission Ballroom crowd, an original debut of “Let The Boogie Out”. This marked the second PPPP original debut this month, following the Ben Carrey-penned “Hit The Ground Runnin’” from November 5th at The Pageant in St. Louis, MO. A lengthy “Burning Up My Time” followed and set up the Psychology track about celebrating the people you love, “Horizon”. After a quick and fiery “The Liquid”, Pigeons left behind its 9-5 with “Ocean Flows”. Ormont, Schon, Carrey, and Petropulos returned to the stage following a short break for a one-song encore of “Dawn A New Day”.

Pigeons will take some time off before returning to the road on December 9th in St. Augustine, FL. From there, the band will head to North Beach Festival in Miami, FL (12/10), and St. Petersburg, FL (12/11), before heading to Asheville, NC for a two-night New Year’s Run (12/30–12/31). Furthermore, the band recently announced a lengthy 2022 spring tour. Head to the band’s website for a full list of tour dates and to purchase tickets.
