PREMIERE: Debut Album From Melbourne-Based Gamilaroi Musician The Terrifying Lows

104

Melbourne-based indie rock act The Terrifying Lows will release its debut, self-titled album this Friday, 12th November. We’re premiering it here on Music Feeds.

Tyler Millott is The Terrifying Lows, a Melbourne-Based, Gamilaroi musician who’s toured with artists such as Ali Barter, Husky and Gretta Ray in recent years. On his debut solo album, Millott explores themes of anxiety, self-destruction and experiential distortion over a backdrop of indie rock sounds informed by the likes of Autolux, Mini Mansions and Royal Blood.

Millott teased the album with the singles, ‘Waiting For The Sun’ and ‘Belladonna’, both of which touch on darker themes without getting bogged down in misery. Triple J Unearthed’s Dave Ruby Howe described the 2020 single, ‘Everywhere You Go There You Are‘ (which also appears on the album) as a “brooding rock song that’s gonna coil around you like a slithering reptile, in snakeskin boots to match.”

The Terrifying Lows was written and recorded across 2019 and 2020. It was a long time in the making, but Millott is satisfied with the end product. “I’m so stoked on the whole process and very proud of the final result,” he said. “It also feels good to show off my skills not only as a bass player but as a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.”

Millott played all instruments on the album, with the exception of drums and backing vocals, provided by Naomi Oakley and Phoebe Neilson. Listen below.
