Tedeschi Trucks Band devoted last night’s first set in Chattanooga, Tennessee to a near complete performance of their 2016 studio album, Let Me Get By. Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks led their group through nine of the LP’s 10 tracks in the order featured on the album for the opening frame at Tivoli Theatre on Thursday.
Let Me Get By opener “Anyhow” kicked off the show. TTB then paired staples “Laugh About It” and “Right On Time.” As the 12-piece made their way through “Don’t Know What It Means” and “Let Me Get By” it became clear what the group had in store. “Just As Strange” followed before Tedeschi Trucks Band dusted off “Crying Over You” for its first play since February 28, 2020.
Thursday’s first set concluded with rarity “Hear Me” and fan-favorite “I Want More.” Tedeschi Trucks Band did not perform Let Me Get By closer “In Every Heart,” which last saw action on October 10, 2018 at The Beacon Theatre in New York City.
“Looking For Answers” from Tedeschi’s pre-TTB days got the call to start Thursday’s second set. “Part Of Me” was then followed by covers of Taj Mahal’s “Everybody’s Got To Change Sometime” and Mongo Santamaría’s “Afro Blue.” Expansive versions of “Shame” and “Midnight In Harlem” came next. From there, Tedeschi Trucks Band took on Blind Joe Reynolds’ “Outside Woman Blues” before Susan shined on the John Prine classic “Angel From Montgomery” and the ensuing rendition of Neil Young’s “Helpless.”
The ensemble went with “That Did It” by Bobby “Blue” Bland to end last night’s second set. For the encore, Tedeschi Trucks Band played their own “Bound For Glory.” Next up for the band is a show in Birmingham, Alabama tonight.
