Believe it or not, 5 Seconds Of Summer have been kicking around for a decade now.
While such a fact no doubt sends all the 25-year-olds and over in the room scrambling for a mirror to check for grey hairs, the fact remains that the pop-punkers are in the form of their lives, and have a new single to celebrate hitting double digits.
Titled ‘2011’, the celebratory track is a nostalgic longing for youth, delivered with the up-tempo punk abandon of their early self-titled work. Check it out below.
The band has also announced a “10-year-celebration” livestream, due to air via YouTube tomorrow, December 4th at 9 am AEST.
Featuring live performances and also sketches re-telling the band’s incredible story, it’s a must-watch even for the 5SOS faithful. The link for the livestream event can be found here.
“This year we’re celebrating 10 years of 5 Seconds of Summer. Single-handedly the best 10 years of our lives. So to honour every experience, lesson, and person we’ve encountered we decided to make ‘The 5 Seconds of Summer’ show,” said the band in a collective statement.
“Above all else, we were once again rediscovering how beautiful it is to be able to share our story together.
“Alongside that we will release a song called ‘2011’ which is an homage to the past, and a nod to what we have in store for the future. We’ve loved every minute of being in this band. Here’s to another ten years of 5 Seconds of Summer.”
