The 94th Academy Awards will be presented on Sunday, 27th March 2022 in a ceremony at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre. While the official Oscar nominations are still to come, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has shared shortlists for 10 awards categories.
The 15-song shortlist for Best Original Song includes Billie Eilish – ‘No Time to Die’ (from No Time to Die); Beyoncé – ‘Be Alive’ (from King Richard); U2 – ‘Your Song Saved My Life’ (from Sing 2); and last year’s winner, H.E.R., for ‘Automatic Woman’ (from Bruised).
Kid Cudi is included twice: for ‘Guns Go Bang’ with Jay-Z (from The Harder They Fall) and ‘Just Look Up’ with Ariana Grande (from Don’t Look Up). Here are the rest of the shortlisted songs:
Sparks, Adam Driver & Marion Cotillard – ‘So May We Start’ (Annette); Van Morrison – ‘Down to Joy’ (Belfast); Brian Wilson & Jim James – ‘Right Where I Belong’ (Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road); Cinderella Cast & Idina Menzel – ‘Dream Girl (Cinderella); Emilia Jones – ‘Beyond the Shore’ (Coda); Amandla Stenberg – ‘The Anonymous Ones’ (Dear Evan Hansen); Sebastián Yatra – ‘Dos Oruguitas’ (Encanto); Reba McEntire – ‘Somehow You Do’ (Four Good Days).
Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood features twice in the Best Original Score shortlist—the first for the Jane Campion film The Power of the Dog and the other for Pablo Larraín’s Spencer. Hans Zimmer is also in there twice, for No Time to Die and Dune.
