Broken Social Scene Announces Rarities Compilation & Shares Unreleased Track

109

Broken Social Scene will issue Old Dead Young: B-Sides & Rarities on January 14, 2022 via Arts & Crafts. The Toronto-based collective previewed the compilation album with “This House In On Fire.”

“This House Is On Fire” comes from the sessions for Broken Social Scene’s 2010 album, Forgiveness Rock Record. Similarly, the rest of the collection comes from 7-inches, compilations, soundtracks and rare releases from the critically acclimated collective’s 20-plus-year career which began with their 2001 debut album, Feel Good Lost.

The ambient album, Feel Good Lost, was the first record from BSS co-founders Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. The collective evolved to include “an extended family of performers,” press materials for Old Dead Young noted, “with roots in post-rock (Justin Peroff; Do Make Say Think’s Charles Spearin), Latin jazz (Andrew Whiteman), art-folk (Feist), synth-pop (Amy Millan and Evan Cranley, also of Stars), dance-punk (Metric’s Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw), and country rock (Jason Collett).”

BSS would go on to release their breakout album You Forgot It In People in 2002 and followed with a self-titled LP in 2005, 2010’s Forgiveness Rock Record and their latest LP of new material 2017’s Hug of Thunder. Old Dead Young draws its title from a track taken from the Hug Of Thunder sessions.
