Cat Power (Chan Marshall) shared two new singles, “I’ll Be Seeing You” and “Unhate.” The songs are set to land on Cat Power’s upcoming Covers album.
While not technically a cover, “Unhate” is Cat Power reimagining her song “Hate.” The tune originally appears on Marshall’s 2006 album The Greatest.
With lyrics by Irving Kahal and music by Sammy Fain, “I’ll Be Seeing You” originally appeared in the 1938 musical, Right This Way. The song became a standard after being popularized by Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and others. For Marshall, “I’ll Be Seeing You” is a tribute to recent losses in her creative inner circle.
