Fleet Foxes Announce ‘A Very Lonely Solstice’ Live Album

71

Fleet Foxes will issue the live album A Very Lonely Solstice digitally this Friday, December 10 with vinyl and CDs available for pre-order. The live record documents Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold‘s 2020 Winter Solstice livestream concert from Brooklyn’s stunning St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church.

Although no preview track arrived with the album announcement, Fleet Foxes shared A Very Lonely Solstice livestream performance video of “I’m Not My Season” in January 2021. The song is off the band’s Grammy-nominated album Shore, which arrived on the fall equinox in 2020. A Very Lonely Solistice is mainly Pecknold solo with a nylon-stringed acoustic guitar in what the singer-songwriter describes as, “me by myself on the longest night of the year,” as a surge in the pandemic gripped New York City and much of the world.

But Pecknold isn’t completely alone on the career-spanning, 13-song set. The record opens with Resistance Revival Chorus joining him in a safe manner on Shore’s “Wading In Waist-High Water” and closes with the choir helping out on the 2020 LP’s “Can I Believe You,” a version of which aired on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in December 2020.

A Very Lonely Solistice also sees Pecknold reaching back to Fleet Foxes 2008 self-titled debut album with “Tiger Mountain Peasant Song” and including entries from the 2011 Grammy-nominated LP Helplessness Blues (“Blue Spotted Tail”) and 2017’s Crack-Up (“If You Need To, Keep Time On Me”). Additionally, the live record boasts Robin on a cover of Nina Simone’s “In The Morning,’ a take on the traditional “Silver Dagger” and more.

The filmed recording of the A Very Lonely Solistice livestream is also set to premiere on Friday at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT. Set a reminder below:
