On the heels of Halo Infinite’s recent release on Xbox One and PC , a look at a live-action TV series based on the wildly popular video game franchise has arrived.

Paramount+ dropped the first trailer for Halo the series. While void of action, footage depicts a visually astounding futuristic setting with vast planetary landscapes and earth-orbiting space rock structures.

There are also glimpses of advanced military spacecraft and United Nations Command fighters, as well as Halo’s heroic Spartan super-soldier, Master Chief (John-117).

“Dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant, Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future,” the trailer’s description reads.

Engadget reports that Halo has spent nearly a fully decade in development hell, having first been announced in 2013 and slated to run on ViacomCBS’ Showtime before migrating to the media giant’s new Paramount+ streaming platform.

“[Halo the series] delivers the visceral excitement of playing the game, along with a much deeper emotional experience around the Spartans, human beings who got their humanity chemically and genetically altered,” Showtime Networks executive David Nevins previously told Deadline.

“The story is about reclaiming what makes them human, and therefore it’s a very powerful story.”

Pablo Schreiber stars as Master Chief alongside Natascha McElhone as the Spartan program-creating Dr. Halsey.

Jen Selter, who has voiced Master Chief’s artificially intelligent aid Cortana since 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved, will play the same character on the show.

Halo the series premieres in early 2022 on Paramount+.
