Supergroup Ramble On Revival featuring guitarists Steve Kimock and Eric Krasno, Dead & Company bassist Oteil Burbridge and more debuted at the Denver Comes Alive event on Saturday at the Mission Ballroom. Along with keyboardist Holly Bowling, trumpeter/vocalist Jennifer Hartswick, saxophonist Skerik and drummer Jeff Sipe, Ramble On Revival filled their set with songs from the Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band and more.
Ramble On Revival kicked off the concert with the Janis Joplin-popularized “Piece Of My Heart” with Hartswick on lead vocals. Oteil then took the reins on GD’s “Fire On The Mountain” before Krasno stepped to the mic for ABB’s “Blue Sky.” A funky, instrumental laced with brass from Skerik and JHa followed before Ramble On Revival took Denver to “Hot ‘Lanta.”
The Dead rocker “Deal” came next ahead of ABB’s “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More.” Both “Mountain Jam” and an Oteil led “Shakedown Street” stretched to around 16 minutes each. A pair of Allman tunes, “Midnight Rider” and the instrumental “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed,” which saw Kraz and Kimock teaming up on the composition’s killer guitar harmonies, brought the main set to a close. For the encore, Hartswick led Ramble On Revival on a gorgeous rendition of the Grateful Dead’s “Brokedown Palace.”
