The Hold Steady Welcomes Michael Imperioli & Augusta Koch In Brooklyn

The Hold Steady kicked off this year’s Massive Nights run at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City on Wednesday with the first of four shows at the venue. Actor/musician Michael Imperioli and vocalist Augusta Koch sat-in with the band on “Chillout Tent” during last night’s concert.

Imperioli’s band, Zopa played a set to start the evening. Then, The Hold Steady took the stage for their first Massive Nights performance in front of an in-person audience in two years. Up first was “Constructive Summer,” the song that opens The Hold Steady’s 2008 album, Stay Positive. Craig Finn and company followed by pairing the classic “Barfruit Blues” with “Lanyards” from their most recent LP, Open Door Policy, which arrived earlier this year.

The Hold Steady continued with a complete performance of their 2006 studio album, Boys And Girls In America. All 11 tracks from the original LP were played along with bonus tracks “Girls Like Status” and “Arms And Hearts.” Imperioli and Koch emerged towards the end of the Boys And Girls In America portion of the evening to help sing “Chillout Tent.”

Thrashing Thru The Passion’s “Denver Haircut” began the final segment of last night’s main set, which also included “Sequestered In Memphis,” “Me & Magdalena,” “Your Little Hoodrat Friend” and “Slapped Actress.” Finn moved to keys for a debut cover of Counting Crows’ “A Long December” to start a four-song encore. The Hold Steady went back to Stay Positive for “Ballad Of The Midnight Hauler” and closed out the evening with “You Gotta Dance (With Who You Came To The Dance With)” and “Killer Parties.”
