David Ferguson Shares “White Dove” With Ronnie McCoury, Dan Auerbach [Listen]

Celebrated Nashville recording engineer David Ferguson made his long-awaited debut last year with Nashville No More. On the album, Ferguson left the control booth and worked alongside many of the Music City stars he helped produce including Margo PriceSierra HullJustin Moses, and more. On Wednesday, David Ferguson released “White Dove”, a Nashville No More bonus track with Dan Auerbach and Ronnie McCoury.

The simplistic three-piece track hears Del McCoury‘s boy come right out in front on mandolin throughout the song. The slow mountain waltz is timeless in its quality, rooted deep in the hills of old Virginia that “Ferg”, as he’s known around town, sings of. Arguably the biggest star in the room, The Black Keys guitarist/singer hangs back and steadily strums the rhythm on six-string, offering backing vocals when needed.

“To have the opportunity to record as a three-piece band on one microphone with two of the best musicians and singers the human race has to offer? I wish everyone could experience that feeling at least once,” Ferguson said of the track that was previously only available on vinyl.

After decades of working with such legends and luminaries as Johnny CashJohn PrineSturgill Simpson, and more, Ferguson took his long-awaited moment in the spotlight with Nashville No More. Someone who has worked as long and as hard in Music City as David doesn’t do so without making a few friends, and they line up around the block to record with him. Fans can hear Jerry Douglas, Stuart Duncan, Béla Fleck, Tim O’Brien, and many more play across the LP.

David Ferguson – “White Dove” (ft. Dan Auerbach, Ronnie McCoury)

“White Dove” Lyrics

In the deep rolling hills of old Virginia
There’s a place that I love so well
Where I spent many days of my childhood
In the cabin where we loved to dwell

White dove will mourn in sorrow
The willows will hang their heads
I’ll live my life in sorrow
Since mother and daddy are dead

We were all so happy there together
In our peaceful little mountain home
But the Savior needs angels up in heaven
Now they sing around the great white throne

White dove will mourn in sorrow
The willows will hang their heads
I’ll live my life in sorrow
Since mother and daddy are dead

As the years roll by I often wonder
If we will all be together someday
And each night as I wander through the graveyard
Darkness finds me as I kneel to pray

White dove will mourn in sorrow
The willows will hang their heads
I’ll live my life in sorrow
Since mother and daddy are dead
