Golden Smog Announces Minneapolis Concerts With Jeff Tweedy

73

Supergroup Golden Smog will reunite at First Avenue in Minneapolis for concerts on April 2 and 3. The band’s first public show since 2011 was supposed to take place in 2020 to celebrate the venue’s 50th anniversary yet was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, not only has a second date been added but Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy is also aboard for the two-night run.

Golden Smog’s lineup for April 2 and 3 features Tweedy, Big Star drummer Jody Stephens, former Soul Asylum guitarist Danny Murphy, Kraig Johnson of Run Westy Run and the Jayhawks’ Gary Louris and Marc Perlman. Jeff Tweedy did not participate in the 2011 revival of the band or a private 2019 show held in honor of Murphy’s birthday — which also didn’t include Stephens — as per the Star Tribune. Jeff Tweedy played with Golden Smog at a Barack Obama Rally held at Minneapolis’ Target Center on February 2, 2008.

The Minneapolis-based collective dates back to the late-80s with Tweedy coming aboard in 1995. Golden Smog put out four full-length studio albums between 1995 and 2007 with Johnson, Perlman, Louris and Murphy the only members of the ever-changing lineup to appear on each.

Tickets for the April 2 are on sale now via AXS.com. On Friday, January 14 tickets for April 3 go up for grabs through AXS.com at 10 a.m. CT.
