Goose stopped by The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on Friday. The Connecticut quintet unveiled two new originals in each of their sets in L.A.
Goose kicked things off with “Honeybee,” which saw an appearance from manager Jon “Coach” Lombardi on rain stick. After staple “Arcadia” and “Travelers,” Goose delivered a cover of the Bruce Hornsby classic “The Way It Is.”
“Creatures” then prefaced the first debut of the evening, “Borne.” Goose recently released the song as a single with guitarist Rick Mitarotonda describing the new tune in a press release as an “unfiltered breath of newness; a beginning statement.” Rick led the band through the song with guitarist/keyboardist Peter Anspach joining him on some nice harmonies on the coda. Goose stretched the tune out a bit from the studio version’s 5-minutes with a vibey jam that saw some blissful soloing from Mitarotonda toward the end. “Flodown” from Goose’s 2021 album Shenanigans Nite Club wrapped up the first set.
Goose kept up the debuts to begin the second set with a new song called “Atlas Dogs.” Rick plucked out a galloping riff with piano trickling in from Peter before Mitarotonda sang lead on the new tune. The quintet did a bit of exploring on “Atlas Dogs” which included another blast off from Rick. Parts 1 and 2 of “Seekers On The Ridge” followed. Goose then offered “Arrow” and jammed their way into a cover of Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Outta My Head” before returning to “Arrow.” A pairing of “White Lights” and a “Loose Ends” jam wrapped up the second frame. Goose returned to encore with “726.”
