73

Dead & Company guitarist John Mayer will sit out the first weekend of the band’s Playing In The Sand destination event in Mexico after testing positive for COVID-19. With drummer Bill Kreutzmann also missing the event, the remaining band members will team with guests to perform as Dos Hermanos con Amigos at Moon Palace Cancún in Riviera Cancun, Mexico January 7 – 10.

Dos Hermanos con Amigos will consist of Dead & Company guitarist Bob Weir, drummer Mickey Hart, bassist Oteil Burbridge and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti joined by JRAD/Ghost Light/Billy & The Kids guitarist Tom Hamilton and Wolf Bros/RatDog drummer Jay Lane. Special guests and sit-ins are expected with Margo Price pointed out as an example in an announcement from Dead & Company.

“We came down here to have fun. Unfortunately some of our brothers cannot make it but fun is what we’re going to have,” wrote Bob Weir as part of the announcement, which also mentioned, “In these unprecedented times fans should expect many rare and different tunes.” Kreutzmann will miss both weekends of Playing In The Sand under an order from his doctor due to a non-COVID health issue. The second weekend spans January 13 – 16.
