Odell Beckham Jr. might be reconsidering this decision to take his entire NFL salary in Bitcoin after the cryptocurrency’s latest dip.
The Los Angeles Rams wide receiver opted to take his full salary in Bitcoin after he came to L.A. from the Cleveland Browns, back when it was hitting all-time highs and worth approximately $64,000 per coin.
After a recent market dip, the crypto coin is now worth around half of that, hovering around $35,000.
On January 23, Action Network Sports Business reporter Darren Rovell claimed that Beckham’s salary is now worth just $413,000 as opposed to the $750,000, excluding taxes.
After taxes, OBJ reportedly netted around $35,000 from his Rams contract so far this year, which equates to just one Bitcoin, Rovell claimed in tweet to his 2 million followers.
Beckham and the Rams take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, January 30 in the 2022 NFC Championship game. MaximBet’s latest odds have the 49ers at +3.5 against the Rams.
Given Beckham’s propensity for living large–he famously wore a $350,000 Richard Mille watch during Browns games and once owned a Rolls-Royce featuring a hood ornament of himself–he better hope Bitcoin bounces back soon.
