73

A soundtrack for the forthcoming documentary Take Me To The River: New Orleans features new recordings from Irma Thomas, The Neville Brothers, Snoop Dogg, Ani DiFranco, Dumpstaphunk and many others. Due out through Petaluma Records on April 1, the 26-song collection has been previewed with today’s release of lead single “Act Like You Know” featuring Dee-1, Mannie Fresh, Big Freedia and Galactic.

Directed by Martin Shore, Take Me To The River: New Orleans explores the rich musical history of the Crescent City, the influence of New Orleans as well as The Big Easy’s culture and heritage. Shore previously examined Memphis’ musical influence in his 2014 documentary Take Me To The River. “Memphis told the American music story. New Orleans is a story of how World music was created,” stated Martin Shore regarding his next film.

Soul Rebels, Williams Bell, Ledisi, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Anders Osborne, Donald Harrison, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, George Porter Jr. and Eric Krasno are among other musicians who contributed to the Take Me To The River: New Orleans soundtrack. Additionally, the compilation includes new recordings from The Neville Brothers’ final performances and music from one of the late Dr. John’s last studio sessions. Take Me To The River: New Orleans will arrive in multiple formats, including on CD, digitally and via a deluxe vinyl set featuring 2 LPs and a 60-page book.
