The Infamous Stringdusters’ Jeremy Garrett Guests With Greensky Bluegrass In Port Chester

76

Greensky Bluegrass continued their 2022 winter tour with support from The Infamous Stringdusters at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on Saturday. The third all original concert of the tour saw Greensky performing nearly every song from their new album Stress Dreams and welcoming Dusters fiddler Jeremy Garrett to close out the first set.

GSBG kicked off the first frame with just the second rendition of “Worry For You.” The quintet debuted Stress Dreams cut at the tour opener in Albany. GSBG then jumped into a 13-minute-plus “Leap Year” before delivering four Stress Dreams songs beginning with LP opener “Absence Of Reason,” “New & Improved” and “Streetlight,” the latter unveiled last night at the band’s album release concert in Philadelphia. Greensky capped off the Stress Dreams segment with the title track.

As they had done with banjoist Chris Pandolfi at The Met in Philly the night before, Greensky Bluegrass welcomed a member of The Infamous Stringdusters to help them close a set. At The Cap, fiddler Jeremy Garrett joined for “Fixin’ To Ruin” and delivered a flying solo during the jam section which got a big rise from the audience. Jeremy stuck around for set-closer, “Burn Them,” which featured a more intense fiddle excursion laced with dobro from Anders Beck. Anders and Garrett built a crescendo before mandolinist Paul Hoffman brought the tune home.

Greensky launched the second set with another second version of a Stress Dreams track, closer “Reasons To Stay,” unveiled at The Met as well. Next, guitarist Dave Bruzza introduced Anders before engaging in a bit of banter about pointing on stage and looking cool with Beck joking, “I don’t look that cool but I’m used to it. I did write a song about not being that cool and I hope you like it. It’s called the…Breakdown.”

Anders then plucked out the opening to the often exploratory “Broke Mountain Breakdown,” which flowed through peaks and valleys before building to a conclusion with Anders adding some darker dobro touches toward the end as the band headed into Stress Dreams’ “Give A Shit,” which kicked off another run of songs from the LP including “Monument,” “Get Sad,” “Cut A Tooth” and “Screams” with the latter three all debuted the night previous.

A pairing of Stress Dreams single, “Grow Together” and “Run Or Die” closed out the second frame. For the encore, Greensky Bluegrass welcomed frequent collaborator percussionist Guido Batista on “What You Need” to bring the evening to a close at The Cap. All told, the only song from Stress Dreams the band did not play was “Until I Sing.”
