Triple J’s Hottest 200 Of 2021: Live Updates

216

Triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2021 kicks off at midday on Saturday, 22nd January. Although we don’t know the winners, top honours are predicted to go to either The Wiggles for their cover of Tame Impala’s ‘Elephant’ or Gang of Youths for their triumphant comeback single, ‘the angel of 8th ave’.

But there’s a whole other countdown to get through before the Hottest 100. That’s right – this year, the Hottest 200 (songs 200-101) is taking place before the main event. We’ll be counting it down live from 10am AEDT on Friday, 21st January.

Last year’s Hottest 100 was an especially close race, with just 350 votes separating the number one song, Glass Animals’ ‘Heat Waves’, from second place, ‘Booster Seat’ by Perth indie rockers Spacey Jane. We’re anticipating another tight contest this year, as well as another strong showing for Australian talent.

Along with the anticipated appearances by Gang of Youths and The Wiggles (and, by extension, Tame Impala), the likes of The Kid LAROI, Spacey Jane, RÜFÜS DU SOL, King Stingray, Lime Cordiale, The Jungle Giants, Ball Park Music and Amyl & The Sniffers are all predicted to crack the top 20.

Meanwhile, the Hottest 200 is one for the nerdier triple j listeners among you. If your faves differ somewhat from the triple j hive mind, it could be where the songs you voted for will end up. For instance, last year’s Hottest 200 included songs by Slowly Slowly, Oliver Tree, Big Sean, King Princess, Hayley Williams, The Strokes and loads more who didn’t make the top 100.

You can watch it all go down right here.
