Umphrey’s McGee Busts Out ‘Come As Your Kids’ Mashup In Detroit

89

Umphrey’s McGee concluded their two-night run at The Fillmore Detroit on Saturday. UM unshelved their “Come As Your Kids” mashup for the first time in over two years during the second set.

Umphrey’s started the show off with “Domino Theory” followed by “Morning Song” and “Professor Wormbog.” A paring of “1348” and the instrumental “Mullet (Over)” came next. A standalone “Speak Up,” then prefaced a seamless set-closing section of “Soul Food Parts I and II” ahead of a call back to “1348.”

Staple instrumental “Dump City” commenced the second frame before guitarist Brendan Bayliss led the band through the “Come As Your Kids” mashup, containing elements of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are,” MGMT’s “Kids” and Dead Or Alive’s “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record).” UM debuted the mashup during their Halloween run at Atlanta’s Tabernacle on October 29, 2011 and it also appears on the band’s 2016 mashup album, Zonkey. The Detroit rendition marked the 12th performance of “Come As Your Kids” and the first since August 29, 2019 for a total gap of 116 shows, as per All Things Umphreys.

UM continued the second set with a host of classics beginning with instrumental “Miss Tinkle’s Overture” before “Uncommon” led into “The Bottom Half.” Another vintage tune, “40s Theme,” capped off the set. Umphrey’s McGee returned for an encore of “Remind Me” to bring the evening to a close.
