Valerie June shared a cover of Daniel Johnston’s “True Love Will Find You In The End” on her YouTube channel. June went solo acoustic for the performance featuring a song acclaimed singer-songwriter Daniel Johnston originally released on his 1985 studio album, Retired Boxer.
“Daniel Johnston was seriously an amazing songwriter,” Valerie June said following her performance. “He influenced Kurt Cobain and Sonic Youth and he was a musician’s musician.
“He was also a visual artist,” June added of Johnston who died in 2019. “I’m a visual artist. I like to paint and draw. Sometimes the painting will take me about three years to complete. But it’s one of the fun things I like to do.”
Valerie June released a deluxe edition of her 2021 studio album, The Moon And Stars: Prescriptions For Dreamers, this past Friday. The set collects the LP’s 14 original tracks as well as six acoustic versions of album tracks and covers of Nick Drake’s “Pink Moon,” John Lennon’s “Imagine” and Stephen Foster’s “Beautiful Dreamer.”
