Chris Robinson & Howlin Rain Share Mott The Hoople Covers

65

Chris Robinson and Howlin Rain teamed up to record covers of Mott The Hoople’s “Sucker” and “Death May Be Your Santa Claus.” The tracks are out today digitally via Howlin Rain bandleader Ethan Miller’s Silver Current Records on Bandcamp and can be streamed below with a special limited edition 7-inch vinyl release available for purchase.

“In 2019, Chris Robinson came and sat in with Howlin Rain in San Francisco during our performance at The Chapel. We played Mott The Hoople’s ‘Sucker’ and it was a blast,” recalled Miller. “As the pandemic came in the following year, sit-ins and live gigs were a thing of the past for awhile and we turned our heads toward the studio for these kinds of endeavours of kinship and collaboration. CR chose one more of his favorite Mott songs and we were off to the races.”

The tracks were recorded at Los Angeles’ Palomino Sound facility by Jason Soda. Overdubs were laid down at Telluride’s Studio In The Clouds and The Mansion in San Francisco. Legendary British rock band Mott The Hoople originally released “Sucker” on 1972’s All The Young Dudes and “Death May Be Your Santa Claus” on 1971’s Brain Capers.

Howlin Rain recently opened for Chris Robinson and The Black Crowes‘ two-night stand at the House Of Blues Las Vegas on February 11 and 12. Miller and his bandmates put out the excellent studio album The Dharma Wheel last fall.
