Florida native Damon Fowler and his band took the stage at the Bonita Springs Seafood and Music Festival on Saturday February 26th, 2022. Review by Joel Shover
Even if you have not heard of Damon Fowler before, you have heard his work, for his working resume is filled with associations including the likes of Buddy Guy, Greg Allman, Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks, Johnny Winter, George Thorogood, Little Feat and The New Orleans Radiators just to name a few! The smell of seafood lofted through the air from boiled shrimp to jambalaya. Locals and snowbirds alike set up their lawn chairs with their families to watch the show.
Damon Fowler was nominated for the Blues Rock Album award at the 2022 Blues Music Award for his new album Alafia Moon. This was Damon Fowler’s eighth solo album, and the release went straight to the top of Billboard’s Blues chart.
The band came out rocking with the song “It Came Out of Nowhere” from there Damon jumped right into the only cover off of the new album with the storied cut “The Guitar.” These four-minute songs on the album have turned into seven-to-ten-minute signature jams for Fowler. “I’ve Been Low” and “Some Things Change” were the next two tracks to come from Alafia Moon. Damon then played an old song by request called “Fruit Stand Lady” that contains a very funny story, give it a listen. “28 degrees” was next but the Florida sunshine was saying more like 90 Degrees.
Fowler’s longtime friend a fellow guitarists JP Soars joined the band and gave way for Damon to play some serious slide guitar for the grooving “Sugar Shack” and then the two young guitarists paid tribute to 1950’s Chicago Blues legend JB Lenoir, with their take on “Talk to Your Daughter”, that had the crowd young and old dancing. Soars exiting the stage and Damon strikes the notes of The Allman Brothers classic, “Jessica,” that had the crowd roaring for more. There was time for one more and it came with a story about some unpaid taxes. “Tax Man” the final song off the new album and the final song of the show. Go See Live Music!
Till the next show……. Joel
