Dave & Tim Keep Rarities Coming At Riviera Maya Event

Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds took the stage on Saturday for their second of three concerts as part of the pair’s Riviera Maya destination event in Mexico. Matthews and Reynolds’ 23-song performance on the beach at Moon Palace in Cancún featured a debut for the duo along with three songs the musicians hadn’t played together in at least four years and another last played in 2019.

Last night’s concert began with a bit of “Too High,” a track from Matthews’ Some Devil LP dusted off on Friday for its first play since 2006. Dave and Tim then kept the focus on Some Devil with “Save Me” and “Trouble.” The latter was last performed back on January 28, 2018 as per DMB Almanac. Next up was “Funny The Way Is Is” from Dave Matthews Band‘s 2009 LP Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King before they returned to Some Devil for “Dodo,” which Dave and Tim hadn’t played since April 4, 2017.

Matthews and Reynolds continued the concert with beloved DMB cuts “Granny,” “Old Dirt Hill (Bring That Beat Back),” “Satellite” and “Lie In Our Graves.” Tim then went solo for the instrumental “Jemez Rolling Waves” before Dave returned for “The Dreaming Tree.” Another bust out followed in “Bismarck,” which was last played on January 13, 2018. Then, a few songs later, the pair offered their first joint performance of “The Ocean And The Butterfly.”

The Dave and Time debut was followed by the pairing of Some Devil cut “Stay Or Leave” and oldie “The Song That Jane Likes.” Reynolds then treated fans to a solo “Betrayal” before Matthews re-emerged on piano to join Tim on the first “Death On The High Seas” since the 2019 Riviera Maya destination event. A run of DMB classics “You & Me,” “Typical Situation” and “Dancing Nancies” closed out last night’s set. Matthews and Reynolds ended the evening with an encore featuring “Sister” and the Bob Dylan cover “All Along The Watchtower.”
