Goose completed their Winter Tour 2022 at Stage AE in Pittsburgh on Saturday night. The Connecticut-based jam quintet provided a free livestream, which can be viewed below, and ended the night and trek with their first cover of Fatboy Slim’s “Praise You” since February 22, 2020.
“Praise You” was performed in honor of the band’s crew. Multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach shouted out each crew member during the Fatboy Slim cover before guitarist Rick Mitarotonda unleashed a fiery solo to cap “Praise You.”
Goose started the night with a five-song first set. The band opened with “Silver Rising,” a tune debuted during Goose’s Groundhog Day show in Bend on February 2. An expansive version of staple “Butter Rum” followed before the five-piece took “Turned Clouds” deep. However, the improvisational centerpiece from Saturday’s first set came with a 23-minute “Red Bird.” Anspach led the group through the recently-debuted “Silver Rising” ahead of an adventurous set-closing “Tumble.”
“Rockdale,” a song originally performed by proto-Goose band Vasudo, got Saturday’s second set underway. The quintet then made their way through both parts of “Seekers On The Ridge.” Up next was a quick romp through The Guess Who’s “American Woman” sung by percussionist Jeff Arevalo and a “The Empress Of Organos” that spanned over 20 minutes. Goose dug in on “Slow Ready” to end the second set in Pittsburgh before the aforementioned “Praise You” encore.
