The Foo Fighters have gone extremely heavy with a new cut titled ‘March of the Insane’ under the pseudonym of Dream Widow, which is, according to a description, taken from the fictitious band’s “never released self-titled album.”
Instrumentally, the track draws heavily from early thrash, with headbang-inducing riffs aplenty and Dave Grohl howling lyrics like “Sing in a villainous choir / Join in a chorus of pain.”
While it’s unclear exactly how, the song ties in with the band’s upcoming comedy-horror film, Studio 666, a trailer for which arrived last month. Premiering next week, the B.J. McDonell-directed film centres around Grohl and his bandmates as they attempt to record their 10th studio album (last year’s Medicine at Midnight) in a haunted mansion, with supernatural forces threaten the album’s completion – and the band’s lives.
“Like most things Foo, Studio 666 began with a far fetched idea that blossomed into something bigger than we ever imagined possible,” said Grohl, who wrote the story which the film is based off. Studio 666 will be shown in Australian cinemas for around one week, opening on Thursday, 24th February.
Meanwhile, rumours emerged earlier that this week that the band are set to perform a one-off Australian gig in Geelong, Victoria next month.
