John Mayer Stops Los Angeles Show To Help Fallen Concertgoer

66

Guitarist John Mayer performed at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Palladium on Wednesday for his first show under his own name since 2019. Mayer paused the concert for SiriusXM and Pandora’s Small Stage Series towards the end of the main set to allow paramedics time to attend to an audience member in need of medical assistance.

The situation played out as “Slow Dancing In A Burning Room” came to a close. Mayer stopped soloing and pointed the crowd asking, “Is this a medic situation?” He asked the band to end the song and vacate the stage when he realized the unidentified fan did indeed need help. Paramedics attended to the concertgoer and brought the fan to safety while the ensemble waited in the wings.

John Mayer and his band came back a few minutes later. “Anyone in the crowd who’s worried, I’m told that she’s up and waved goodbye, so she’s okay. The system works, thank you very much,” Mayer told the audience as per Jambands.com’s report and followed the pause with “Waiting On The World To Change.”

The show marked the debut of John Mayer’s new band. The guitarist was backed by guitarists Isaiah Sharkey and David Ryan Harris, drummer Steve Ferrone, percussionist Lenny Castro, keyboardists Jamie Muhoberac and Greg Phillinganes, bassist Pino Palladino and vocalists Tiffany Palmer and Carlos Ricketts.

Mayer delivered a 13-song main set and two-song encore in Los Angeles. Six songs from his 2021 studio album, Sob Rock, were performed including “All I Want Is To Be With You,” “Last Train Home,” “New Light,” “Shot In The Dark,” “Shouldn’t Matter But It Does” and “Wild Blue.” The guitarist also treated fans to such classics as “Gravity,” “Edge Of Desire” and “Who Says.”

Last night’s concert aired live on SiriusXM’s The Spectrum (Channel 28) and on the SXM App. The Spectrum will air rebroadcasts throughout the week, while listeners can also hear the show on Andy Cohen’s Kiki Lounge (Channel 312) tomorrow (Friday, February 11) at 7 p.m. ET with the channel providing additional rebroadcasts during the weekend.
