Kitchen Dwellers will issue a new album, Wise River, produced by Vulfpeck’s Cory Wong, on April 29. The Bozeman, Montana-based bluegrass quartet previewed Wise River with the title track and accompanying music video.
Wise River is Kitchen Dwellers’ first full-length of original music since 2019’s Muir Maid. The new album announcement follows the four-piece — mandolinist Shawn Swain, banjoist Torrin Daniels, bassist Joe Funk and guitarist Max Davies — releasing the single “Stand At Ease” last fall, benefitting music industry mental health non-profit Backline. “Stand At Ease” will also appear on Wise River.
Kitchen Dwellers drew inspiration for the new record from a locale in Montana.
“The town of Wise River is basically a forgotten spot on the map,” Swain said. “It used to be a thriving place with many prosperous mines, but now it’s practically dried up. There’s a hell of a lot of melancholy. In our mind, it symbolizes the overall feeling of being in slowed-down Montana life.”
