Live For Live Music is now accepting applications for a full-time staff writer to join the outlet’s editorial team, with the opportunity to move into an editor role based on performance.
The new Live For Live Music (L4LM) staff writer will be a key part of the outlet’s editorial operations, helping to track down, research, write, and edit multiple articles per day in a fast-paced, virtual newsroom environment. Staff Writer Daily Responsibilities
- Write polished, well-structured, interesting articles about music news on WordPress
- Edit and proofread written pieces ahead of publication
- Research unfamiliar topics for the purpose of informing articles and fact-checking
- Manage schedule for content posts across social media platforms, monitor engagement to inform strategy
- Stay on top of happenings in the music world to identify pertinent and interesting stories
- Develop, research, and write longer features/series (e.g., interviews, premieres, editorials)
Required Experience, Skills, & Traits
- Previous experience as a writer or editor for a digital media outlet
- Impeccable command of the English language and proper grammar
- A knack for composing tight but captivating copy with a compelling voice
- Ability to produce fast, clean explanations and analysis of breaking stories, even on unfamiliar subjects
- Avid reader/consumer of written media (be prepared to tell us about your favorite outlets and why you like them/their voice)
- Knowledge of and personal presence on various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Twitch, etc.)
- A working computer and access to a reliable internet connection
- Knowledge of and passion for music (specifically jam, funk, bluegrass, rock, indie, hip-hop, soul)
- Goal-driven in terms of both personal and team success
- Time management—a self-starter with the ability to prioritize and complete assignments on time without excuses
- Professional—can work with artists, management, publicists, etc. while keeping your cool
- Good attitude—positive, passionate, and flexible with a willingness to learn new skills
- Hard worker—eager to put in the effort to help drive the publication forward
- Reliable—can show up on time and ready to hustle every day
- Availability:
- Able to work 9 a.m.–5 p.m. (ET) Monday through Thursday, with one rotating 9 a.m.–5 p.m. shift each weekend (either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday)
Additional Desired Skills
- Background/education in journalism
- Interest and past experience in the music industry
- Familiarity with SEO
- Experience using WordPress and/or other content management systems
- Experience using project management applications (Asana, Basecamp, Slack, etc.)
- Experience with image editing/graphic design (Adobe)
- Experience with photography
Location: Remote (Preferred: New York City-based/within Eastern Time Zone or willing to wake up early if located further west)
Full-time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, plus one full-day rotating shift each weekend (either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday)
