Lucius unveiled the single “White Lies.” The track appears on the group’s forthcoming studio album, Second Nature, which is set for release via Mom + Pop Music on April 8.
Second Nature is the first new album from the band led by Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe since 2016’s Good Grief. Lucius recorded the 10-track LP with co-producers Dave Cobb and Brandi Carlile mainly at the historic Nashville facility RCA Studio A. Laessig and Wolfe penned the material on Second Nature, which features longtime band members Peter Lalish and Dan Molad as well as Solomon Dorsey. Drew Erickson, Rob Moose and Gabriel Cabezas provided additional contributions to the record.
“‘White Lies’ was the first song we wrote after I got divorced,” explained Wolfe of the new Lucius single. “It’s the laying in bed at night, cycling through the last 10 years of your life, wondering what was, what could be and why it wasn’t. It’s the moment right after you rip the band-aid off and are frantically pedaling backwards, trying to hold on to what’s left, if anything at all. ‘I just want to lie with you,’ the double meaning and double-edged sword; if only one last moment together could save you from a broken heart.”
