New Chicago Venue The Salt Shed Announces Opening Lineup

75

A new venue is coming to Chicago as The Salt Shed opens its doors this summer with an initial lineup revealed today. While The Salt Shed boasts an outdoor riverfront space that will host concerts from Fleet Foxes, Lake Street Dive, Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit and more in August and September, the venue also contains an indoor stage slated to open in 2023.

The Salt Shed makes use of the historic Morton Salt complex on Chicago’s Goose Island. Located on Elston Avenue, The Salt Shed is being created by 16 on Center, the group behind a number of other Windy City venues including the Empty Bottle, Beauty Bar and Thalia Hall. All told, the space spreads over 1.5 acres along the riverfront including both the indoor and outdoor stages.

The venue’s initial series of concerts will feature Fleet Foxes on August 3, followed by Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen and Julien Baker on August 10. Then, Andrew Bird and Iron & Wine play The Salt Shed on August 12 with Lake Street Dive headlining the outdoor space on August 13. Additional concerts include Lord Huron and First Aid Kit on August 15, Mt. Joy on August 20, Jorja Smith on August 25 and Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit on September 23.

Tickets for the newly confirmed The Salt Shed shows go on sale next Friday, February 18 at 10 a.m. CT. via Eventbrite. Look for more concerts as well as arts and culture programming to be announced soon. Eventually, The Salt Shed will be home to retail spaces, bars, pop-up food events and open air markets.
