Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Silk Sonic is back with a new single, “Love’s Train”. The dreamy R&B slow jam, a cover of an early-’80s deep cut by Con Funk Shun, marks the first new release from the Bruno Mars– and Anderson .Paak-fronted soul project since the late 2021 arrival of its highly successful debut album, An Evening With Silk Sonic.
The track originally appeared on Con Funk Shun’s To the Max LP in 1982 and later peaked at No. 47 on the R&B charts. Some fans may also recognize Dru Hill‘s cover of track from 1996. In Silk Sonic’s hands, the shimmer of its original era remains intact alongside some expertly engineered updates (i.e. a synth line becomes a horn section). This dip into the crates feels like a no-brainer in .Paak and Mars’s retro vernacular, a callback to a glamorous, bygone era with a modern kick.
