The Black Crowes covered David Bowie‘s “Moonage Daydream” during the encore of their concert Saturday night in Las Vegas. The performance was the band’s second straight show at the House of Blues following Friday’s concert that also saw the debut of a classic rock song.
Just as he did on Friday night, frontman Chris Robinson spoke to the audience before the start of the encore and revealed The Black Crowes recently recorded an album of covers of songs released in 1972. Friday’s encore consisted of “Rocks Off” from The Rolling Stones’ 1972 LP, Exile On Main St.
“Last night I told everyone, a couple of weeks ago we were in Los Angeles,” Robinson said on Saturday. “We were doing some recordings, making a record of songs that were released in 1972 – it’s a fucking theme you know? So this one is for all the freaky aliens out there. Thank y’all.”
The Black Crowes then launched into “Moonage Daydream,” which appeared on Bowie’s 1972 acclaimed concept album, The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars.
Prior to the encore, Saturday’s main set consisted of songs from across the band’s catalog, including “No Speak No Slave,” “Hotel Illness,” “Sting Me” and “Remedy” from The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, along with the Amorica songs “Wiser Time,” “A Conspiracy,” “Ballad In Urgency” and “She Gave Good Sunflower.” Also part of the show were the Shake Your Money Maker tracks “Jealous Again,” “She Talks to Angels,” “Sister Luck” and a cover of “Hard To Handle.” The band also played “Go Faster” from By Your Side.
