Ween arrived in Port Chester, NY on Friday night to kick off a three-night run of shows at The Capitol Theatre.
The alt-rock weirdos used the first night of their Port Chester trip to maintain their position on a longstanding, regionally-specific feud over breakfast meat naming rights; while most bands are severely lacking in material about pork roll egg and cheese sandwiches, Ween performed three “pork roll” songs and added an extra helping to a fourth—and still managed to leave yet another viable candidate (“Awesome Sound”) on the table.
In addition to serving up a “Pork Roll Egg and Cheese” opener on a kaiser bun, the Friday night show included renditions of “Frank” (who dutifully handed over a pork roll egg and cheese) and “She Fucks Me” (with its “pork roll egg and cheese” intro). Later on in the set, “Cornbread Red” got a taste of the proverbial sandwich when Gene Ween tacked on yet another “pork roll” refrain.
