Soul singer Allen Stone and longtime collaborator/keyboardist Swatkins have released a new collaborative track, “More To Learn”, an upbeat anthem about embracing our differences due to appear on Swatkins’ forthcoming album. The single also features an assist on guitar by Eric Krasno, who co-wrote the song along with Swatkins, Stone, and Jans Ingber.
Stone and Swatkins have spent the better part of the last decade collaborating, touring the world, and writing new music together. That longtime kinship and creative connection comes easily on “More To Learn” as Swatkins and the talented backing band conjure a vintage sound while Stone’s distinctive vocals and Krasno’s melodic guitar lines float above them.
While it just arrived for mass consumption, the track has been in the works for ages. “This song almost got away from us!” laughs Swatkins. “Allen Stone, Eric Krasno and I put together a demo version of the tune while we were staying at the Hotel El Ganzo in San Jose del Cabo. Even in rough form, we thought we had an undeniable hit song! But… I think Allen’s label at the time was more interested in trying to turn him into the next Robin Thicke or something like that, so it languished on a hard drive for several years. We ended up rewriting it with Jans Ingber (formerly of The Motet) and recorded it piecemeal throughout the pandemic in Portland, Spokane, and Los Angeles.”
