Angel Olsen Announces New Album ‘Big Time’ & Shares Single

59

Angel Olsen will release a new studio album entitled Big Time on June 3 via Jagjaguwar. The singer-songwriter shared a video for the album’s lead single and opening track, “All The Good Times.”

Olsen wrote the material on the forthcoming LP during a period when she “was coming out as queer, and having her first experience of queer love and heartbreak,” as per a press release heralding Big Time. “Some experiences just make you feel as though you’re five years old, no matter how wise or adult you think you are,” Angel recalled of coming out to her parents. However, Olsen was relieved at having the conversation. “Finally, at the ripe age of 34, I was free to be me,” she added. Sadly, each of her parents died before she set about recording the new LP. Big Time was informed by both her coming out and the passing of her parents.

The 10-track follow-up to Olsen’s 2021 covers EP, Aisles, and full-length 2020 LP, Whole New Mess, was recorded and mixed with co-producer Jonathan Wilson at his Fivestar Studios facility in Topanga, California. Angel’s longtime bandmates, Emily Elhaj, played bass on Big Time, which features Drew Erickon on piano, organ and creating its string arrangements.

Angel Olsen will hit the road with Sharon Van Etten and Julien Baker this summer for The Wild Hearts Tour. Olsen tapped Kimberly Stuckwisch to direct the “All The Good Times” video. “Angel’s story is a gift. It allowed me to visually explore the universal themes of love, loss, and most importantly what holds us back from realizing our true selves,” explained Stuckwisch.
