Dave Matthews Band detailed their latest archival release, Live Trax Vol. 59: MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre, due out on April 22. The recording comes from DMB’s July 16, 2014 concert in Tampa, Florida.
The 2014 summer tour featured a different than usual format as DMB concerts go. The band played two sets, as opposed to the one long one, with the first frame featuring a stripped-down DMB beginning with bassist Stefan Lessard offering some bowed bass on opener “#27.” The acoustic set also boasted the relatively new tune at the time, “Snow Outside,” as well as classics like “Ants Marching” “I’ll Back You Up,” and “Crash Into Me.” Drummer Carter Beauford delivered some characteristically masterful percussion work on “Sweet” before the band closed out the acoustic segment with “Minarets.”
DMB went full-tilt electric for the second set which opened with a big pairing of classics “Don’t Drink The Water” and “Seek Up” ahead of favorites lke “Satellite” and “Crush.” Other second frame highlights include “So Right” as well as a three-song encore beginning with a standout version of “Good Good Time” followed by “You & Me” and Talking Heads’ “Burning Down The House” to cap off the evening.
