Goose brought their current tour to Royal Oak, Michigan last night. The quintet’s Wednesday night concert at Royal Oak Music Theatre featured an adventurous “Rosewood Heart” that spanned over 37 minutes.
The band opened with “Borne,” a song featured on their upcoming studio album, Dripfield. “Borne” took flight for nearly 20 minutes of funk-heavy jamming and was followed by “SOS” from 2021’s Shenanigans Nite Club. Next came Peter Anspach‘s “Life On The Shelf.”
Goose then lit into the expansive “Rosewood Heart.” Guitarist Rick Mitarotonda shredded throughout the lengthy, improv-filled number that contained multiple peaks. Last night’s first set concluded with “Jeff Engborg,” a song originally played by Anspach’s Great Blue project.
Wednesday’s second set was a four-song affair featuring plenty of improvisation. “726” went deep with blissful jamming to kick off the frame. The beloved “Madhuvan” followed and saw the band focus on dark and heavy exploration. Mitarotonda then led his bandmates through Jackson Browne’s “Doctor My Eyes” ahead of a set-closing “Yeti.” Goose returned to end the night with a “Butter Rum” encore.
