Gov’t Mule Releases ‘Heavy Load Blues’ Outtake ‘Hiding Place’

Gov’t Mule will release a deluxe edition of their 2021 studio album, Heavy Load Blues, digitally on April 1 via Fantasy Records. The quartet led by Warren Haynes unveiled “Hiding Place,” the opening track on the deluxe edition of their first blues album.

Heavy Load Blues arrived on November 12, 2021. Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis and bassist Jorgen Carlsson prepped the 13-track LP at The Power Station New England while working simultaneously on their next record. Haynes and John Paterno co-produced a collection that mixes Warren originals and Mule covers of blues classics.

The deluxe edition features five studio cuts that didn’t make the album, two live tracks and an extended version of the Ann Peebles-popularized “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home.” Stream Heavy Load Blues bonus track “Hiding Place” below:

Gov’t Mule, who kick off an extensive spring tour on April 6, recently started a new video series entitled “Session Sunday.” The weekly series began with a “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home” performance recorded during soundcheck in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on September 14, 2021. Yesterday’s installment featured Heavy Load Blues standout “If Heartaches Were Nickels” from the show in Bethlehem. Check out both videos below:
