John Mayer continued his weeklong stint in California with a Friday night show at the Chase Center in San Francisco. The performance came after three nights at The Forum in Los Angeles and featured the singer-songwriter’s first rendition of Beyoncé‘s “XO” in five years.
With Mayer’s Sob Rock touring band firmly in place following some COVID-induced rotations last month, it was all systems go at the Chase Center. The guitarist front-loaded the show with career-spanning offerings starting with Sob Rock‘s “Last Train Home”, followed by “Belief” from 2006’s Continuum, with interspersed tracks from The Search for Everything, Born and Raised, and more.

Midway through the 20-song show, Mayer went acoustic to deliver his first cover of “XO” since October 20th, 2017, per Setlist.fm. The acoustic interlude also saw takes on “In Your Atmosphere” and “Neon” before the Dead & Company guitarist/vocalist invited the rest of his band back onstage. In addition to a cover of Prince‘s “The Beautiful Ones”, the back-nine of Friday’s concert featured more of the artist’s hits including “Stop This Train”, “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room”, “Waiting on the World to Change”, and the set-closing “Gravity”.
