Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal’s bitter beef has spilled from the UFC Octagon into the streets of Miami, and “Gamebred” is stoking the flames.
The former friends and roommates were reportedly involved in an altercation at a Miami Beach steakhouse weeks after their main event bout at UFC 272 on March 5, which Covington won decisively.
According to TMZ, Covington had eaten dinner at Miami Beach’s Papi Steak with the Nelk Boys after appearing on the YouTube stars’ Full Send podcast.
Masvidal, who was not dining at the restaurant, allegedly attacked Covington outside before police were called.
Masvidal then called out Covington in the video below posted to Twitter:
“Calling this the show-your-face challenge,” Masvidal said in the seconds-long clip. “What’s up? I’m from Dade County. You talk that shit, you’ve got to back it up. That’s how my city rolls, man.”
Newsweek adds that Masvidal also tagged Covington in an Instagram Story set to Kodak Black’s “Super Gremlin,” which includes the lyrics, “Cause now it’s not safe for you / You switched like a pussy lil bitch.”
Covington has yet to publicly address the restaurant incident or Masvidal’s social media callouts. But in video taken outside the restaurant shortly after the scuffle, Covington can be heard saying, “He’s over here swinging, trying to come at me, and I ran.”
Addressing social media star Bob Menery, Covington asked, “How would [Masvidal] know I’m here?”
“I don’t know,” Menery responded in the clip. “You’re all over the internet.”
After proclaiming that he “took care of Miami street trash” in his Octagon interview after UFC 272, Covington posted several Instagram photos of himself dominating Masvidal in the fight with taunting captions, including a #KingofMiami hashtag.
Masvidal’s manager, Malki Kawa of First Round Management, weighed in, tweeting: “I’m hearing that a someone not from Miami who says he’s the king of it is missing a tooth. Can someone confirm this? I need the video asap.”
Covington, 34, is currently ranked No. 1 in the UFC’s Welterweight division with a 17-3-0 record. Masvidal, 37, is ranked No. 7 with a 35-16-0 record.
