May Erlewine Announces New Album ‘Tiny Beautiful Things’ & Shares Single

81

Michigan-based singer-songwriter May Erlewine will release a new studio album entitled Tiny Beautiful Things on May 13. The prolific musician previewed her latest LP by issuing its first single, “Easy.”

The 10-track follow-up to 2019’s Second Sight was funded in part by a successful Kickstarter campaign. Co-produced with Joe Hettinga, Erlewine tapped Caleb Parker (Scary Pockets) to mix and Devin Kerr (Goodhertz) to master Tiny Beautiful Things. Vulfpeck‘s Theo Katzman contributed electric guitar and backing vocals, while Hettinga added keys and guitar.

The album described in press materials as “a collection of songs dedicated to the power of connection” takes its title from Cheryl Strayed’s book featuring essays from her “Dear Sugar” advice column. “This album is an invitation to connect with the many ways love appears in our lives,” Erlewine explained. “If we look around us, it’s always there. I feel thankful to get to share these love stories through music and I hope they find a useful place in your heart.”

“[‘Easy’] is about facing the truth. It’s that moment of looking in the mirror and choosing to do the hard thing, the righteous thing,” Erlewine told American Songwriter, the outlet that premiered the track. “Sometimes ideas of perfection really get in the way of our progress. This song leans into failure as a way of moving through it. We get to make mistakes, and it’s not easy to face them, but in order to keep living life, we absolutely have to.”
