UPDATE: Ye (Kanye West) Pulls Out Of Rolling Loud Miami 2022, Kid Cudi To Fill In

[UPDATE 7/18/22]: Kid Cudi will replace Ye (Kanye West) as the first headliner of Rolling Loud Miami 2022, the festival announced on Sunday. Kid Cudi will headline the festival at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on Friday, July 22nd, with Future and Kendrick Lamar set to headline Saturday the 23rd and Sunday the 24th respectively.

“We were looking forward to Ye headlining Rolling Loud Miami 2022,” Rolling Loud co-founders Tariq Cherif and Matt Zingler said in a statement. “We spent months working with him and his team on the performance. Unfortunately, Ye has decided that he will no longer be performing. This is the first time a headliner has ever pulled off our show and though we don’t take it lightly, we wish him the best. We look forward to welcoming Kid Cudi as a headliner in Miami and we can’t wait to see what he has in store.”

Kanye West similarly pulled out of his headlining performance at Coachella just weeks before the festival earlier this year and is currently being sued by a Los Angeles-based production and design firm for failing to pay for work on the canceled performance.

West and Kid Cudi have worked together extensively in the past, perhaps most notably via their short-lived collaborative project, Kids See Ghosts, but had a public falling out in February of this year. The rappers were both featured on Pusha T‘s “Rock N Roll”, but Cudi explained that he would not work with West again. “I did this song a year ago when I was still cool w Kanye. I am not cool w that man,” he tweeted. “He’s not my friend and I only cleared the song for Pusha cuz thats my guy. This is the last song u will hear me on w Kanye.”

Cudi recently made his debut mixtape A Kid Named Cudi available on digital streaming platforms for the first time, and he shared a greatest hits collection, The Boy Who Flew to the Moon, Vol. 1. He begins a tour of North America, Europe, and the United Kingdom in August.

[3/2/22]: Rolling Loud Miami, has announced the lineup for its 2022 event, set to take place at Hard Rock Stadium on July 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. The flagship Rolling Loud event, one of the country’s preeminent rap festivals, will feature a star-studded mix of today’s hip-hop giants led by Ye (Kanye West), Future, and Kendrick Lamar.

Artists set to perform ahead of the mercurial Ye on Friday, July 22nd include Playboi CartiLil DurkDon Toliver2 ChainzLil YachtyThree 6 MafiaSaweetie$notG HerboFivio ForeignBIA, Sleepy HallowMoney ManKash DollCity MorgueABTay MoneyKen Car$onRobb Bank$AbraPressaLil PoppaLil DarkieKalan.FrFrKuttem ReeseSSGKobeScoreyKanKanCico PGripDestroy LonelyStrickTafia, Omerettà The GreatDigital Nas, Homixide GangK.CharlesMellow Rackz, and Oya Baby.

Ye has repeatedly captured the attention of the hip-hop world and the culture at large in recent months with his outsize Donda and Donda 2 listening parties. While not quite “live performances,” the album preview events at stadiums around the country have ranged from starkly simplistic affairs to elaborately produced spectacles, often including a variety of guest appearances. Of note, several of the artists featured on the Grammy-nominated Donda and its quasi-released sequel—including Playboi Carti, Lil Durk, Fivio Foreign, Lil Yachty, Don Toliver—are also billed on the Friday Rolling Loud Miami lineup, so fans can likely expect a number of “surprise” appearances during West’s headlining performance.

On Sunday, Kendrick Lamar will close out the festival with a highly anticipated performance. The elusive Compton prophet Kendrick Lamar has been slowly emerging from his solitude over the past year as he prepares to release his final album with his longtime record label, Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). Lamar performed just one major live show in 2021 as part of Day N Vegas, during which he threw it back to his 2011 debut album, Section.80, in honor of its 10th anniversary.

Kendrick started strong in 2022 with a thrilling performance as part of Dr. Dre‘s “hip-hop Avengers” Super Bowl Halftime Show last month, catapulting himself back into the public eye. With so much time and momentum behind him and a new album on its way (we hope), fans can expect a very special performance from Lamar at Rolling Loud Miami 2022.
