Sharon Van Etten released a new song entitled, “Used To It.” The singer-songwriter’s latest single arrived with an accompanying video.
Etten, who celebrated a birthday last Saturday, recently shared the single “Porta.” The pair of new songs is Van Etten’s first new solo original music since the release of her 2019 album, Remind Me Tomorrow. Van Etten collaborated last year with Angel Olsen on the song, “Like I Used To.” Van Etten will soon embark on The Wild Hearts Tour with Angel Olsen and Julien Baker.
“Used To It” was originally written by Van Etten to be part of the score for the HBO documentary film, Baby God, “about a fertility specialist who takes it upon himself to impregnate women with his own sperm.” Van Etten shared the below statement regarding the song:
“Ultimately, the film team changed their musical direction, but I found myself welcomely challenged to the idea of writing a song about the concept of family, connection through blood, nature vs. nurture while attempting to incorporate ideas of love and the complexities of science and technology. I am grateful for this song to be able to have a new life, relating more to the times we have all been living through and redefining the meaning of this song by focusing on the positives of seeking connection and understanding what family means to the individual.”
The “Used To It” video features dancer/choreographer Hayden J Frederick and was created by Van Etten’s bandmate and musical director Charley Damski. Watch Sharon Van Etten’s video for her new single, “Used To It” below:
